Methodology and practice (weeks 11 and 12)
Accompanied by a chief editor throughout this exercise, the trainees confront the editing of a short film in order to apply, concretely, methodology and different work possibilities.
This fifteen-minute film will allow the trainees to be in the real configuration of an editing job (or, if they wish, film or documentary rushes will be made available).
The trainees will have at their disposal the synopsis, the script and the cut of the film which will allow them first of all to analyze and understand the wishes of the project.
The rushes of the film, along with the shooting reports, will allow them to measure the gaps between the director’s project and the hazards of production and shooting. This initial analysis allows us to begin to imagine how, with the reality of the images and sounds shot, the editing will help to find the initial project.
The editor, artistic collaborator
The editor being a creative collaborator who accompanies a director and a team, it will be organized days of meeting with a director and a script girl so that the trainees approach the part of their work which consists in knowing how to exchange, discuss, understand and answer the expectations of a director.
Preparation for the exam: complete editing exercise in real conditions (weeks 14 and 15)
Exercise in (almost) autonomy: editing a fiction film, under the direction of the director and finalization on the bench.
Duration: 15 weeks
